The Mist

Let me start off by saying if you've not yet seen this film, go get it on DVD. How some films don't get the media hype is beyond me, don't you just love it when you just stumble upon a film, and think to yourself I'll watch this and see how it goes, well that's exactly what happened with me regarding The Mist. I'd never heard of nor seen anything of this film, gave it a try, and I was like WOWWWW. The tensions in the film are amazing, especially after the Mist rolls into the small town. It's not no ordinary Mist this, it brings with it a whole host of otherworldly creatures. Creatures small and deadly to dinosaur sized creatures. A lot of the movie is filmed in a supermarket, as a group of people lock themselves inside the supermarket as they become aware of what's outside. Tension in the supermarket builds up and builds up, and it's not long before they start to turn on each other. Their other problem is the fact that the supermarket front is predominantly all glass, so you can pretty much imagine how long that will stay intact. Their only hope is to get to there cars in the car park. For a select few, they have to fight their way out the supermarket with most others turned against them by a religiously freaky woman who believes that "God is punishing them", and then confront the real danger that awaits them outside.
This movie is a very atmospherically chilling film, the whole supermarket scene was very gripping, and the ending of the film was even better, but I won't give the ending away here.
Do go and watch it, I absolutely loved this movie...

Underworld - Rise of the Lycans

25th Jan, 2009

Went to see this film with quite high expectations, having been very impressed with the previous 2 Underworld movies, but I have to say I was thoroughly disappointed with this film. It was mainly about the love interest of a female vampire with a male lycan werewolf. I came out of the cinema thinking that I didn't really care what happened to any of the characters, as there was no main lead character, and thinking that the directors could have quite easily included a lot of this movie as flashbacks in the first 2 Underworld films. This film had the potential to be so much better, oh well, lets see how the next one pans out in the Underworld series...

My Bloody Valentine 3-D

16th Jan, 2009

Went to see My Bloody Valentine 3d, the first of many 3d films out this year. It was your typical slasher movie. Starts with a miner on a killing spree in a small town, the sherriffs think they've killed him, fast forward 10 years, and another crazy axe-wielding madman is on the loose killing everyone, is it the same killer????? The movie does have quite a few gruesome deaths as the movie went along. All in all I do like slashers like these, as they keep you guessing who the real killer is.
Being a 3d movie I was expecting it to be a very good cinema experience, but I felt it was nothing more than a Good film, nothing spectacular, I guess 3d movies work better for animated films.

Slumdog Millionaire

03rd Jan, 2009

Well, what can I say about this movie, it was a pleasure to watch this. And the way it's sweeping up all sorts of awards everywhere, it's proving to be a big hit. A story about how a poor guy from the Indian slums makes it big, a film about love, a film about the poverty in Mumbai, and about how his life experiences have got him so far in "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire", all in all a very well made movie, and I would highly recommend anyone to go watch this. Although I did find Anil Kapoors character ( the host of "who wants to be a millionaire" in the movie ) to be a bit obnoxious for my
liking, but the rest of the movie easily made up for this.

So, a big Well Done to a certain Mr Danny Boyle...

Mirrors

Dec, 08

I was pleasantly surprised with this film as to how good it was. It's a film that played on my personal fears, as in, why would someone take up a job at a burnt out department store, as a security guard and work night shifts when there's no electricity, I for one would never take such a job. Yes, i know it's only a movie, but a good movie it was. I think Kiefer Sutherland played his part well as the security guard haunted by some evil presence inside mirrors, which uses your own reflection to kill you. It's a good movie with some scary scenes in it, and I think most people will like the little twist to end of the film.
